Two Weeks with the In-Laws (Part 1)

4:35 am, Audrey wakes and belts out a loud cry, but I don't hear it. Audrey's bedroom in this house is Oma's closet (the size of my bedroom, mind you). I do hear the soft footsteps into the kitchen below and the microwave closing. Love, laughter and random noises always echo in the wondrous house that Caleb helped his dad build. Then it is quiet, Oma made Audrey a bottle, changed her diaper and she joins her brother and sister in the Land of Nod. I wake at 9:30, homemade biscuits, bacon and a fresh pot of coffee. 3 fed, happy children playing on the screened in porch with Oma and Opa.

No, they weren't eating Ruffles at 9:30 am... I took this picture in the afternoon

A special trip to the dollar store for "makeup," stickers, glitter, paints, markers, new paper and gum. Hand-me down dance costumes from aunts, sprinkles on everything that is edible, wonderful old books like Lassie and Beatrix Potter classics. Avery is in bliss.

Avery and Audrey with their Lab, Rogie

Long walks in the woods, three dogs, tractors to climb on, squash and peppers to pick from the garden, bountiful bushels of bananas on the kitchen island, dancing and singing to Opa playing the guitar, playing in Oma's cabinets with cousin Wyatt. McClaine is full of life and joy.

It's not normal and it was a daily occurrence. I am so blessed. Most people would cringe at the idea of spending two weeks with their in-laws. I know, I have read their blogs. I just have it so good, I am so blessed. They love their son, they love his kids and they really love his wife. Thanks for the great memories, thank you for serving me and allowing me to rest, thank you for loving my children so well. You are amazing and my family is blessed! We love you Oma and Opa.

We're the ones that are blessed--and you're right about us loving Caleb, loving his kids, and REALLY loving his wife. Thank you for bringing your family such a long way. Come back soon--it's already way too quiet here!

The picture of your family in the woods is fabulous! You should photoshop yourself into it and send that on your Christmas cards :)
