Caleb found this violin through our new brother-in-law’s father. He found it in the classified ads in a local paper and told Caleb about it. We had been on a search for a violin, and this one was in our price range. Upon further investigation, we found that it was hand-made in Germany, pre-war! It had been restored since then, and is lovely, actually sounds beautiful even when the kids attempt to play it. Avery is particularly thrilled about it and stretches her arms long to hold it! We also finally celebrated Reece’s birthday, after the flu and cold season about did our entire family in! Oma made a doggy cake for Reece, since her favorite things in the world are the dogs. Check out her eye- she and all the other kids in our family got colds that manifested in their eyes, and her eye took much longer to heal up. I was concerned that it got infected, so I took her to the pediatrician and he said that she had “trauma.” Our guess was that she rubbed it in her sleep and it irritated it. Needless to say, she wasn’t in the happiest of moods for her first birthday party (which is quite evident in the bottom right picture)!

What an amazing find with the violin! My uncle Jonathan would be so impressed! LOVE the birthday pictures. Thanks for complimenting my cake-I will admit to being a little proud of it. Some day in the future, perhaps we'll have a movie marathon (I'll supply the Twilight DVD's:) whilst eating slices of that delicious-sounding Coca Cola cake that your mother-in-law made for your birthday?
What a gem!
I hope her eye is better.
Definitely memorable moments.
What an awesome find. I need to find an instrument my kiddos can play.
Poor eye..I sure hope it gets better soon.
It really does sound wonderful! I never thought a violin could be so soothing. Thanks for including the pic of Wyatt playing, by the way. Poor Reecy. She is still a cutie and we love her. Wyatt says thank you for giving him an eye cold just in time for his birthday too. :o)
